UN Says Closure of the Strait of Hormuz Would Impact Global Energy and Food Markets
NextFin News -- UN Secretary-General spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric said that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would have significant repercussions on global energy and food markets.
Citing the latest report released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on March 10, Dujarric analyzed the economic impact of a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz and highlights the considerable risks it would pose to global trade and development. The report noted that the recent escalation of tensions in the region has already affected energy transportation, leading to a rise in global oil prices, while the volume of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has noticeably declined, nearing a standstill.
