China's Router Giant TP-Link Founder Applies for Trump Gold Card Amid Probe into His Company
NextFin News -- Chinese wireless router giant TP-Link's founder and CEO Zhao Jianjun is applying for permanent residence in the United States through the Trump Gold Card program while his company is being probed by America over security issues.
Zhao and his wife may pay 1 million to 5 million dollars and donate another 1 million dollars to the Ministry of Commerce in order to get the permanent residence status.
Zhao said his company is communicating with the U.S. authorities to clear up security concerns.
The U.S. government is investigating Chinese wireless router manufacturer TP-Link, citing national security risks. The probe marks the largest move to remove Chinese telecommunications equipment from the U.S. market since the Trump administration ordered the removal of Huawei devices in 2019.
The U.S. Department of Commerce, Department of Defense, and Department of Justice have conducted separate investigations into TP-Link, with the goal of potentially banning the sale of TP-Link routers in the U.S.
