BYD Confirms Humanoid Robotics Project to Leverage Automotive Automation Technology
TMTPOST — Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD Co. Ltd. has confirmed it is actively developing proprietary humanoid robotics capabilities, according to a recent broadcast interview with Group Executive Vice President Stella Li.
Li stated that the fundamental competition within the robotics sector hinges on a corporation's comprehensive manufacturing capacity alongside software and hardware proficiency. She noted that automotive artificial intelligence capabilities share an architectural lineage with robotics engineering, easing technical development. If the technology achieves domestic household safety standards, BYD intends to distribute consumer-facing units directly through its existing automotive dealership infrastructure.
The automaker plans to utilize an open platform strategy, allowing the company to alternate between independent production and manufacturing partnerships with external technology firms. This strategic diversification marks an expansion of BYD’s robotics footprint, which already includes direct equity investments in Chinese mainland automation component suppliers.
